Adrian Wiggins returns to Pure and Applied

Adrian Wiggins brings collaboration for impact to the sustainability advisory expertise of Siobhan Toohill.

Today I’m glad to welcome my partner Adrian Wiggins back into the small advisory business we co-founded in 2012, Pure and Applied. Adrian returns as Collaboration and Systems Change Lead, to complement my expertise in sustainability advisory.

First, my own story of return. So that I could share my expertise with business leaders and sustainability teams in corporate Australia, in mid 2024 – after 11 years leading the sustainability function at a major Australian bank – I began to build my portfolio career, including in a part-time capacity as Director of Pure and Applied. Collaboration has always been part of what I do, and my view is that for advisory to succeed it’ll be because stakeholders have contributed.

Adrian was last in the business in 2016, and over the past decade since then has moved from digital strategy, user experience and product design – with two years at Pollen Digital – to planning, design and sustainability for cities and the built environment, and for energy, water, roads and rail infrastructure with six-plus years in the Sydney office of Arup. The last 18 months he’s been in the corporate sustainability team at PwC Australia, there co-leading The Impact Assembly, bringing his expertise in transformative collaboration to their engagements for positive social and environmental impact, with his focus being on climate resilience.

Now once more at Pure and Applied, Adrian will continue to deliver collaborations for impact with sustainability teams and projects.

Collaboration for sustainability impact

Something I’ve learnt in my long career in sustainability is the importance of thoughtful engagement with stakeholders – combined with a systems thinking approach – to drive the changes that will deliver impact.

Adrian and I have both seen that sustainability change inside business is best achieved in a close engagement with leadership, and with the stakeholders involved. For this reason, I’m excited to add Adrian’s collaboration and systems change capabilities to the sustainability advisory services I bring.

Sustainability challenges and opportunities

With collective experience between us in a broad range of sectors and sustainability topics we’re able to address strategic challenges and opportunities for impact across corporate sustainability, climate, nature, human rights, resilience, transition, community and social.

Areas of particular focus for us in the 12 months ahead are:

  • nature and food systems,
  • ESG risk and responsible technology, and
  • value chain co-operation for resilience.

In all of this, our aim is to further develop the capability of the sustainability leaders and teams we work with – in the content, and the engagement and collaboration practices that matter to their success.
